MythsMyths

Let's dispense with the myths, here is the truths about hybrids.

Like any technological revolution, hybrid vehicles have been the subject of numerous misconceptions. So it's worth considering some of the myths that surround this new energy source and finding out the truth.

HYBRIDS VEHICLES ARE UNDER POWERED

In building other hybrid engines, certain automotive engineers focused on fuel economy at the expense of performance. Lexus has achieved both, as the high technology petrol engine works together with high voltage electric power, for outstanding performance.

HYBRIDS NEED TO BE PLUGGED IN

You'll never have to plug in a Lexus hybrid powered car. The petrol engine generates all the electricity a Lexus hybrid needs to keep the battery charged. This stored electrical energy is then used to supplement the petrol engine during accelerating and cruising.

HYBRID BATTERIES NEED REPLACING REGULARLY

The high output Lexus Nickel-Metal-Hydride 288V battery has been engineered to last for many years, in some cases potentially as long as the life-span of the vehicle.

HYBRIDS AREN'T SAFE

Hybrids were first invented almost a century ago, shortly after the invention of the very first conventional cars. Technology evolved to a certain point, yet it took Lexus engineers to develop their true performance potential. So today's Lexus Hybrid Drive is proven technology. As for safety equipment, Lexus hybrid vehicles have more active and passive safety and handling technology than most conventional cars on the road today.

HYBRIDS ARE A FAD

As fuel costs soar and the environment becomes an ever-increasing concern, most major vehicle manufacturers are busy developing hybrid technology. So in the near future, we'll likely see more hybrids on the road, not less.
