Powerful and efficient Lexus Plug-in-Hybrid technology extends to the NX Luxury grade

The Lexus commitment to meeting the needs of our customers through a range of powertrains and specification levels continues with the addition of the NX 450h+ Luxury grade, available from late September.

Priced from $84,500 plus on-road costs1, the NX 450h+ Luxury brings plug-in hybrid (PHEV) technology to a wider range of customers wanting to make the transition towards low-tailpipe-emission luxury motoring.

In addition to efficient and smooth performance, the NX 450h+ Luxury offers true Lexus refinement with standard equipment including heated and ventilated front seats with eight-way adjustment, heated rear outboard seats, heated steering wheel, smart entry and start, wireless smartphone charger2, leather-accented upholstery, panoramic view monitor, powered tailgate and a comprehensive suite of Lexus Safety System+ active safety technologies.

Customers wanting the ultimate in mid-size PHEV technology, sports driving and style may still opt for the flagship NX 450h+ F Sport, priced from $96,0001 plus on-road costs.

The topline model enhances the Lexus Driving Signature with Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS), performance dampers, Drive Model Select with Sport S and Sport S+ settings, 20-inch alloy wheels, cornering lamps and auto-levelling LED headlamps. The stylish F Sport interior includes F Sport sports seats and steering wheel, with the exterior featuring unique F Sport design alloy wheels and body.

The expansion of the NX PHEV offering comes on the back of a reduction in demand for the 2.5-litre petrol NX 250 Luxury in Australia, which after existing stock is depleted will no longer be offered.

The NX 450h+ Luxury will soon become the third PHEV offered by Lexus Australia following the arrival of the RX 450h+ Sports Luxury in April, providing greater choice for customers as part of the brand’s multi-pathway approach of offering customers a choice of efficient and intelligent powertrains to suit their needs.

Lexus Australia Chief Executive John Pappas said that the new NX 450h+ Luxury will allow more customers to transition to the improved performance and efficient powertrain technology offered by plug-in hybrid.

“Lexus is dedicated to offering customers a range of powertrains to suit their needs. Our plug-in hybrid technology offers the compelling blend of zero CO₂ tailpipe emissions mobility for shorter everyday use, while still allowing longer road trips without having to stop to charge,” Mr Pappas said.

“Expanding PHEV availability to include Australia’s favourite luxury vehicle3 shows our commitment to offer luxury and performance to more customers.”

Like the flagship NX 450h+ F Sport variant, the NX 450h+ Luxury is powered by the same 2.5-litre PHEV powertrain with intelligent all-wheel drive, providing a potent 227kW of combined power from the petrol engine and two permanent synchronous electric motors.

Paired with an 18.1kWh lithium-ion battery, the NX 450h+ offers 87km4 of electric-only driving range, perfect for daily commutes around town without using any carbon-emitting fuel.

Users can tailor battery usage to suit their driving needs, and if the battery reaches a low state of charge on a longer trip, the powertrain will revert to a similar state of operation as the intelligent NX 350h hybrid setup.

In this scenario, the petrol engine and electric motors work in harmony to deliver both powerful and efficient motoring, keeping the battery state of charge level and ensuring the peak 227kW output is always available for customers.

The air-cooled AC charging system uses a 6.6kW on-board charger which can charge the battery in as little as two and a half hours when using a 32A charging current, and around seven and a half hours with a 10A current.5

The instant torque of the two electric motors and 227kW combined output helps propel the NX 450h+ Luxury from standstill to 100km/h in 6.3 seconds, while providing variable torque distribution between 100:0 and 20:80 front-rear to faithfully match the driver’s intentions.

Full specification will be available closer to the NX 450h+ Luxury’s local introduction in September.
